Luke's 2010 Season Finishes On A Low Note
Our season is now over as we had a heavy brush and impact with the wall at Whyalla Speedway (photos show some of the damage). The team has had an issue late in the season with the cars handling and after a few brushes with the outside fence it has been put down to a bad shock absorber on the right rear as it has been good during the heat races but for some unknown reason it goes off after at least half distance in the Feature Races. The Late Model all of a sudeden lays over on the right rear and launches towards the outside fence without warning. Then it will be good for a while and do the same again. The Late Model all of a sudden laying over was caught on camera. The team was chasing it as maybe a set up issue as a possible cause to this. During the off season the shockers are being sent off to be fully rebuilt and dynoed.
We have purchased a new chassis from the United States, from which we will make a jig and be able to repair the old chassis. The new chassis is a 2008 Rocket that has been re jigged with the 2010 updates. With a bit of luck it should be here in about 8 weeks time and we can get stuck into the rebuild for the 2011-2011 season. In other news the rebuilt Chevy power plant is now performing like it should and has caused not further issues and is certainly putting out good power and the torque is great. So a complete check over is all thats required on the motor in the off season. I will keep you updated with the progress on the new car when it arrives.
Cheers,
Crew Chief

2010 South Australian Late Model Championships - Mildura
Story by Crew Chief: Brian Raymond
Story by Crew Chief: Brian Raymond
The s5 ran well all weekend after the engine went through a rebuild and the addition of a dry sump which has cured the oil surge that the team had started to encounter because of the fast speeds that Luke was now going around end of the track. Luke said the car and motor combination was as strong as or stronger than ever and he was absolutely rapped with the cars performance all weekend.
In the1st heat we started out of position four and went to 2nd on the 1st lap and that is where he finished.
The 2nd heat he was off position five and on lap 5 had just passed the Late Model that was in 3rd to go into 2nd position but was penalised two spots for overtaking on the in field.
Heat 3 Luke started in position four and was held up by slower cars but gained two positions on the last lap and finished a strong 2nd.
By the end of the first night racing Luke five points behind 1st and only two points behind 2nd .
Sunday night continued well as with a front row start Luke showed everyone just how good the Monte Carlo Late Model and how well he can drive a Late Model as he show the field a clean set of heals and cruised home winning by half a lap putting him into 1st in the points. And a guaranteed front row start in the 40 lap feature.
The pole shuffle was a absolute ripper and on the edge of your seats affair with the track hooked up and the drivers were laying down 15.3 second laps. Luke hung back the start of his shuffle to keep the car clean and straight for the feature and to take advantage of the smoother high line by having a start out of position 2. The car was on rails and with Nathan Disney on pole and not looking like backing off in turn one Luke chose to roll off the throttle and drop back to 3rd position. Luke sat there patiently for 26 laps watching the front running cars get slower as the track went rutty and hooky as the race progressed. And just as Luke was about to looked for the outside run, the left font spindle and steer arm began to part company causing him to clip the wall. The car slowed and he went back a spot but it didnt seem too bad to drive so he kept his boot in gas and began to reel in the front runners again. All looked well and as long as he held it on 3 wheels and the car was very fast. On lap 32 disaster struck when the steering arm broke on the back straight spearing Luke into the fence with enough pace to climb the wall and show the crowd what the under side of a late model looks like. Still not fazed Luke nailed it again and as before found that by holding the front left wheel in the air the car still went hard, but as he turned into turn 1 it headed for the wall again so Luke called it quits.

Speedway City Virginia 09/01/10
Luke did some demonstration laps on the Speedway City clay way as a chance to bed in the new set of rings in his rebuilt Chevrolet power plant. The Monte Carlo Late Model looked and sounded great on the track as Luke gave us a small indication of the cars power and potential to be very competitive over the weekend of Jan 30th where they will be next appearing at the Mildura Speedway. There have been quite a few nominations received from interstate teams which should give the fans a good nights action, the thrills and spills that Late Model Racing can produce.

Timmins Speedway Mildura 28/11/09
We picked our new Chevy power plant at 4.00 pm on Friday 27th and took it home fitted and fired it at about 8.00pm only to discover the fuel pump had had cried enough. So a trip to OSE Saturday morning took care of that and we got to Timmins Speedway Mildura in plenty of time to go racing. The new 750 hp plus engine sung like a 750 lb canary, it sounded great and bought the crowd to there feet. Traction was an early issue as the track was a bit wet and slippery. Back in the pits the crew made a minor suspension adjustments and Luke lined up with Jonny Mac and Matt Crimmons. When the green flag flew Luke who started out of position two went into turn one a car length in front and by turn three was a good five car lengths ahead and pulling away rapidly. The car was driving like it was on rails and sounding sweet. Unfortunately the front left bottom shocker bolt broke sending a puff of rubber smoke into the cock pit. Luke smelt it and checked all the gauges to see nothing wrong. So without backing off he continued to race holding he foot into it so as to keep the front wheel in the air and it didnt slow him up one bit. All was looking good for a record breaking run when #@*! happened. On deceleration in turn 3 the engine belched out smoke and continued to poor out smoke for the next lap. Luke finding it harder to handle and seeing the smoke Luke pulled in field only to be swamped by fire crew. The car was running and all gauges looked good, so he shut it down and hopped out to find oil running out of both exhausts. Further investigation is in progress back at the engine builders, but we suspect the motor inhaled the inlet manifold gaskets and we should be back on the track soon.
Cheers,
Crew Chief
Brian Raymond.

25/09/09- 2009-2010 Season Update
The 2009-2010 season calendar is out and as always we are running behind.
The new 400ci bowtie 18deg head 700hp engine is almost ready and a special thanks to Brenton at Auto Techniques.
Chad Signs is no longer in Adelaide and we have taken over his vinyl signs equipment and we have done the graphics ourselves.
Luke has done a great job with the new look paint work and signage on the Chevy Monte Carlo SS Late Model.
This combined with us moving and finances has set us back about a month or so and we will be ready to race when the season starts.
We are looking forward to a more competitive season in both our performance and with the addition of more Mildura meetings and possibly more cars joining this class. You will see a good nights racing for the ever growing group of spectators.
This season the team will be focusing on building onto our resources with our stocks of tyres, suspension parts etc. while continuing to collect data on car setup and track compatibility.

Just a sneak preview of what the new seasons paint scheme will be and more pictures to come as the season kicks of and I can't wait to see the finished livery of Lukes new paint scheme.
