It was a win that launched four NASCAR Cup Series championships, 93 wins, and a NASCAR Hall of Fame® career. On May 29, 1994, rising star Jeff Gordon battled from the pole position in the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet for a hard-earned victory – his first win in the sport’s premier series.

Gordon led only 16 laps that day, but crew chief Ray Evernham made a shrewd call on the last pit stop to take two tires while the rest of the frontrunners took four.
That strategy put Gordon in position to win.
In Victory Lane, Gordon called the race, “the greatest day of my life.”
